First Batch of Summer Slaughter Tour Bands Announced Don’t Hold a Candle to Years Past

0

After much hooplah about the return of The Summer Slaughter Tour and speculation as to which extreme metal acts would be on the bill, the initial batch of confirmations we got moments ago just feels… off. That’s not to say anything negative about the bands in question, but in comparison to years past this just feels like people expecting to experience the Summer Slaughter of old will be surprised.

Touted as a comeback for the annual traveling festival, the 2024 edition of The Summer Slaughter Tour will start on July 12 in Brooklyn, New York and come to an end on August 10 in Reading, Pennsylvania. will see Veil of Maya and Brand of Sacrifice co-headlining most of the 21-dates planned across the country. Coming along on the tour will be Gideon, Left To Suffer, Ten56, Tallah, Cabal, and Brat.

Brand of Sacrifice vocalist Kyle Anderson said he and his bandmates were excited to co-headline most of the tour with Veil of Maya, calling this year’s edition the start of the tour’s “new age.”

“We’re so excited to introduce the new age of Summer Slaughter this year with Veil of Maya and this truly awesome lineup of bands! Back in 2019 we were the first band on the bill, so it’s a bit surreal to be here at the top, bringing in the new era of the tour with our first ever full headline set.”

Note that I said the headliners will be play most of the dates because some stops on the tour won’t even feature one or both of those bands.

Summer Slaughter creator and Sumerian Group owner/CEO Ash Avildsen said he was excited to bring the tour back in front of people.

“This tour has been crucial year after year for breaking new artists as well as elevating the headline status of established acts. I’m thrilled to be able to bring it back with such a youthful lineup, grateful for all the fans who have stuck by the brand and excited for the new generation to experience the tour for the first time.”

It’s important to note that this is not the entire finalized lineup for the tour, nor am I shitting on the bands in question. Organizers have already announced that one more act will be revealed on May 20, so that’s exciting. Maybe it was hyped up too much or maybe I’m just too old to appreciate the bands that were announced, but when you consider past lineups had bands like Morbid Angel, Dying Fetus, Goatwhore, and Cattle Decapitation, it’s pretty obvious that they’re going in a different direction with this this year’s tour.

Still, if these bands are more your thing, then get hyped. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, April 26 at 10 a.m. local time.
