karma to burn - appalachian incantationJust the other day I lamented the fact that legendary stoner rockers Karma to Burn have a new album on the way and we hadn’t even mentioned it, and those of you who commented seemed genuinely excited to hear the news. Today we’ve got more reason to rejoice as you can watch the official video for “Waiting on the Western World” exclusively on MetalSucks, below. You can also listen to two more tracks from the new album on K2B’s MySpace page.

Appalachian Incantation comes out today in Europe and May 11th in the U.S. They’ll be supporting the album by touring with Year Long Disaster in May.

They brought the vocals back, eh? Sounds really good.

Anyways, these dudes are clearly the best hard rock band out there right now, although it’s not like they face much competition.

Just on two tracks for the upcoming album… this was Daniel Davies, the singer for Year Long Disaster (and son of Dave Davies from The Kinks), just on this song. There’s also a song that’s going to be on the bonus disc (and on the European tour EP Incantation’s Ingredients) that features John Garcia of Kyuss.

You wanna know one reason why early Karma to Burn records were really good? Because they didn’t need vocals to be awesome, so they didn’t have any. You wanna know why this isn’t very good? Because of the vocals.

The first record had some vocals.

Anyways, the new one is almost entirely instrumental, if the numerical song titles are to be believed.

Correcto. See my note above, but there are only two tracks with guest vocalists. The rest is instrumental.

Great sing, but this video sucks. Too much blinky, not enough actually happening. I’m glad I’m not epileptic.

this video will induce a wave of seizures.

I am from Morgantown so I have always had a soft spot in my heart for Karma to Burn – BUT, I never really liked their music after Will got it into his head that he is some kind of guitar virtuoso because, like it or not, he is not. They were really at their best when their was still an element of mysteriousness and darkness to their music. Now it’s just the same song over and over AND OVER and we have to watch Rich Mullins squatting in that tired ass crab core pose which is kind of a fucking chore to do.

Also, is Will still wearing that choker shark tooth necklace or whatever the fuck it is? STOP.

All I have to say is the tone of the words compliment the song very well. The problem I see with a lot of hard rock and metal bands these days is that they get too caught up in trying to be “brutal” with their lyrics or trying to portray a message that quite frankly should be left for other genres to cover, genres like punk that are meant to address social issues. The fact of the matter is the sound of the phrase “Waiting on the Western World” is fantastic, something about it just flows well. I don’t really understand how you can say this song is not an instrumental. Yes, there is a vocal track, but the voice is used as an instrument here, not as a platform for a message per say. Is there a message, maybe, but more importantly the track compliments the “instrumentation” extraordinarily well to the point that I would prefer to call it just another instrument, not a “vocal” part.
