EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: DAATH’S “DESTRUCTION/RESTORATION”

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010 at 2:00pm by

Well, we’ve been talking about it for some time, but now you get to hear some of Daath‘s new, self-titled album and make up your mind for yourself — we’re giving away “Destruction/Restoration,” the second cut off the record, as a FREE download.

It should go without saying that we love this song. It sounds like Daath have been let off the leash: Emil Werstler is playing insane shit which should make guitar geeks everywhere cream their pants, Kevin Talley is going absolutely nuts and playing anything but what’s expected, the production, by Mark Lewis and Eyal Levi, is filthy, and the music is darker than Vince Neil’s liver and more misanthropic than Glenn Danzig at a doctor’s office. “Destruction/Restoration” is only about two-and-a-half minutes long, but you’ll never be able to appreciate it after just one listen; it’s just too layered and crazy for that. So download this one on us, get a good pair of headphones, and blow your ear drums to smithereens.

Daath comes out October 25 on Century.

  • Geetarz

Sounds like Daath. I would like to know their direction and what they were trying to accomplish before I give any sort of opinion.

  • Doc

I almost don’t like to admit it, but this isn’t as terrible as I expected. The leads still don’t have any flow in the context of the song (think King/Hanneman with technique and talent) and the bass is nonexistent, but overall it doesn’t totally suck.

    • Farts

Huh? I could hear bass on my pc speaker. Its one speaker. and its like 3 inches i think. Are you deaf?

      • Doc

That wasn’t bass. It was your ass.

        Farts, indeed.

    • GoingDeaf?

I also liked it more than expected, and fully agree that the leads were pointless, if technically sound.

    • http://twitter.com/fantasyoosh fantasyh

It always seemed to me that Daath’s leads fitting into the song was always characteristic of the band. That and the amazing counterpoint they can pulll off with two different solos at the same time

    • Steve O

That song was pretty badass, a lot more aggressive than stuff they’ve done in the past. And the leads were fine IMO.

      • GoingDeaf?

Yeah, the leads are fine, but what is their point? They don’t take the song anywhere compositionally, they are just there to provide a secondary experience for the listener in admiring the technique… much like gratuitous breakdowns in deathcore provide a secondary experience for the listener in moshing but don’t add anything to the composition of the song.

Pointless solos = Pointless breakdowns. If I wanted to admire someone’s technique, I can watch youtube videos. I prefer songs.

        • Steve O

Maybe, but the solos here weren’t “pointless”, I’m pretty sure they were just planted to be a brief flurry of speed amongst a rather fast tune, to provide an extra sense of velocity, or something to that effect.

I mean, I really doubt the guys in Daath are like “OK Emil, when I say go, just solo!”

          • GoingDeaf?

Do they have solos in every song? I haven’t listened to much Daath, but I’m assuming they probably do. I have no idea what their compositional process is, but I’d be willing to bet they build spaces in their structures specifically for solos, as opposed to adding a solo because the song calls for it.

I have a feeling you put more thought into why the solo is there than they did… they just know they need to squeeze in at least one per song.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dave-Colbert/535041444 Dave Colbert

No, they definitely don’t have solos in every song. So you would be wrong on that theory sir…

          • Kevin Halsted

            @goingdeaf?

Like super wrong. They have some of the best compositional skills in modern metal. And no I’m not including tech/math metal.

  • http://web.me.com/metalshea metalshea

When I first heard daath just after the release of the hinderers, I wasn’t so impressed… now? Fucking love it. Can’t wait for this album to drop.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dre-Toledo/628955415 Dre Toledo

fucking killer, i’ll give it more listens.

  • MetalMeatHammer666

Awesome. How do I download it?

    • Slaughterhouse

I was saying the same exact thing…wth

    • steelie

Get the DownloadHelper add-on for firefox and use that. They seem to have forgotten to put an actual download link, the dolts.

      • Ørsaeth

any idea how to download it on Google Chrome? I dont have Firefox

        • http://www.metalsucks.net Axl Rosenberg

          DL link is fixed. Apologies.

  • Driven9

thank you MS. you just made my day!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ron-Maynard/581293784 Ron Maynard

    Not shabby

  • Kisiel

Fucking awesome. I’ve never thought that they are able to make such a monster song. I guess they never did something as good as this track.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Andrew-Sterner/1335958279 Andrew Sterner

Cool stuff. I planned on getting the album anyways, so I’m not completely blown away…really good stuff though.

  • Coop

    This is badass

  • Alec29

Awesome as expected! 10/26/10 can’t get here fast enough for me.

  • OBEY1019

Beginning was pretty good then same route as other Daath songs speed and technicality with the infamous missing element that seems to exist in all their songs.

    • MadSkins

      OBEY1019 is Monte Conner’s codename.

      • OBEY1019

        hahahaha

    • Doc

Yup, but what is it? Maybe its just an organic thing. Too protools-y? Anyone?

      • evilfatguy

It’s not overproduced or anything, it’s just that the composition isn’t interesting or different, it’s just a good metal song and not much more.
Personally I dig the lead style, because it’s not all that predictable; it reminds me of the leads in Glass Casket songs.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Geoffrey-Doyle/1114371916 Geoffrey Doyle

Holy crap… one of those leads is almost identical to a Glass Casket solo. The first riff actually reminded me of them also…. Not a bad track, but it doesn’t really blow my skirt up either.

  • Nocturnal Overlord

this song absolutely rips. Im really looking forward to hearing the rest of the album

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rohit-Gupta/666005820 Rohit Gupta

    Over hyped.

    • justinmorse

      Agreed.

  • DecrystallizingReason

    Good song, completely pointless leads.

  • http://www.myspace.com/thestarsthrewdowntheirspears Tim

Listened to it three times, I cannot find a single thing that makes this any more than mediocre.

    • Perpetual Black Screen Name

Agreed. It’s an okay song from a mediocre band. Bought ‘The Hinderers’ when it came out cos I liked ‘Ovum’ and ‘Subterfuge’ but was not at all impressed with the album as a whole. Downloaded ‘The Concealers’ and liked NOTHING on it. So, this help’s me draw a conclusion: I don’t like Daath. Just something about them that I can’t get into. Seems like a lack of creativity. Worst part is, Kevin Talley is an awesome drummer.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kenny-DjVulgar/100000740257483 Kenny DjVulgar

Daath to me besides Hinders and even it they have always had there own sound …i personal dig the song and i will rock this on my show for sure I think people just need to give this cd and older daath songs some more spins it took me awile to get into it but it is like i seen the light or some shit …. now i have a new love for there sound. Be Original ….. Maybe cause they are not a emo kid screaming the weeee little heart out people cant grasp it properly

btw kevin thanks for being on the show love to have you and the guys back on anytime \m/

  • the hate machine

I listened to it a few times. Sounds pretty generic with good technique to me. Sounds like a filler track

  • Sacajawea

Does anyone know if they plan on re-releasing their first album “Futility”? Or re-recording it or anything like that? Can Axl or Vince find out for me possibly?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kasper-Maigaard/1027001938 Kasper Maigaard

A lot of it sound a lot like Ovum off of Dååth’s own “The Hinderers”. But that’s not exactly a problem as that song slays!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kasper-Maigaard/1027001938 Kasper Maigaard

I also wonder why none of you use Å’s when spelling DÅÅTH.

    • Kuranes

Because we don’t have your wacky keyboard.

      • weareherenow

The purpose of language is to convey an idea…which “Daath” does perfectly well, yah nitpicking grammar bastard!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Colin-OConnor/1491245262 Colin O’Connor

I JUST got around to picking up Concealers about a week and a half ago so this is extra-awesome for me!

  • http://crescentshield.com Crescent Shield

It sounded pretty cool until the vocals came in. I didn’t like the vocal approach, it sounded pretty generic. Also the arrangement sort of changed direction and lost its way when the vox started. The solos, as most have said here, don’t help the song at all. I thought they were pointless and tame – especially the second solo. I still just can’t get into this band.

  • http://www.johnkanesmith.com JAWN

That artwork looks pretty Paul Romanoish. Was he tapped for the new stuff?

    • http://www.metalsucks.net Axl Rosenberg

No, it’s Jorden Haley, the same guy who did Daath’s other albums, Levi/Werstler, and From Exile.

      http://jordenhaley.blogspot.com/

      • Vlygar

I like Jordan Haley, he can come to my house and fuck my daughter.

  • Kuranes

Those sweeps sound like they belong in Super Mario Bros.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Christian-Varg-Voltaggio/1409575074 Christian Varg Voltaggio

For a band with Emil Werstler playing guitar in it the vocals are awfully fucking loud imo.

  • treghet

    Boring.

  • http://www.alexmorganimaging.com ALEXMORGANIMAGING.com

I cÅn’t wÅit till the Ålbum drops.

Ånd those drums Ålmost sound reÅl.

    Åwesome.

  • KilledByDeath

Well, grindcore-ish. But i certainly liked it. Especially after first two albums, which had very “restricted” guitars imo.

    • Lady Siara

I’m not a genre hair splitter by any means, but this sounds nothing like grindcore.

That said, I dunno if I like the song. As someone said earlier, it seems to have something missing. They can play well, the vocals aren’t awful, it just doesn’t stay with you is all.

      • Metal Fuckin’ Dave

I get the grindcore-ish comment. Its more in the song structure than the riff style though. Its fairly chaotic.

  • fernando

sounds a bit like the new arsis

  • Justin

i think they do more melodic songs better. like “The Unbinding Truth” from the last album.

  • weareherenow

    …waiting for a melody
    …waiting for resolution
    …waiting for dynamics

Does anyone else find the recording crowded and muddy? It may just be bad file quality and my poor speakers.

I think this is a poor choice for a sneak peek of the new album as it lacks many of their greatest qualities, though I certainly am interested to hear the album after hearing what Eyal and Emil could throw together quickly for AOW.

  • Jack

    Awful.

  • Figaro

Not as catchy as their past stuff. When will people just write a fucking song instead of just trying to mesh riff after riff to show off fast drumming and pointless leads? Oh yah, the production on this sucks, too.

    • >_>

In all fairness they did warn us that they weren’t going to be doing much producing on this album.

  • Burrhurr

Brings absolutely nothing new to any table what so ever.

    Clinically boring and predictable.

    • Blashyrkh

      1

  • Jizzmaster3000

Vocals seemed to loud to me too, otherwise not a bad effort.

  • Vlygar

Should call this blog MetalSnobs. The song was great.

  • John

Could never get into this band.
This song doesn’t change my mind. The riffs always seemed “meh” to me.

  • Orgasmatron

    I came.

  • http://canadianyeti@live.ca Brandon Waage

    It rules, just like Daath!

  • >_>

Well I certainly hope the rest of their album is nothing like this song, I didn’t wait for this album to come out to hear daath try to make a new grindmetalcore genre.

  • Slaughterhouse

Internet = Vast region to put people and their art down because negativity sales. See Jersey Shore

  • LoomeyTunes

Sounds like older Slipknot minus the tables and samples. They are incindary players with a touch and feel for song crafting that allows them to take technically dynamic songs and make them listenable to the ears of even the most un-trained metal lover. While they may not be everyones cup o’ tea, you have to love the message they are getting across with the exicution of there style: Solidly written songs that are both spazztic in nature but strong on both melody note selection and pure unaldulterated brutality. WARNING: Not for the faint of heart

    • paganheart

      This…minus spelling/grammar errors. ;-)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nick-Carosello/1360764011 Nick Carosello

awesome song stoked for the record

  • Phoenix

I was fairly lukewarm towards The Hinderers.

With this, the second the song hit after the intro, I uttered, “Fuck, yes!” and immediately hit download.

  • thomas

Can’t download.. sez url not found
