NERDFEST 2011 FEAT. SYMPHONY X, NEVERMORE AND SOILWORK COMING TO A THEATER NEAR YOU

Can I get a “heck yes!” from all the nerds in the house?

Heck yes!

Reader Daniel Borbet just sent us a link to an event posted at the website of NYC’s Best Buy Theater — formerly the not-at-all-more-appealingly-named Nokia Theater — for a Symphony X show with Nevermore, Soilwork, Powerglove and Blackguard in tow. Yowza, that’s some serious nerdage right there! The show is booked for April 22, 2011 which seems like an eternity from now, but such is the case when foreign bands like Soilwork are involved and visas need to be procured, flights needs to be booked, and so on and so forth.

Warrel Dane’s show-ending promise after Nevermore’s blazing NYC set the other night — “We’ll be back. The Conspiracy is not yet over.” — rings true, and we didn’t even have to wait that long to find out. Lucky Axl, who was too sick to attend Tuesday’s show, will get another chance to witness the intensity of Nevermore live as captured in the above vid from that night. I’m not a huge Symphony X fan but not for any particular reason; I just never sat down with an album of theirs right and proper, so maybe now’s the time (although I do remember enjoying their performance at Gigantour 2005 or thereabouts). We all know I’m a Soilwork megafan, and they’re always fun live. Blackguard were fun opening for Nevermore, and Powerglove are all about the fun. I’d say this is gonna be a really fucking fun night full of nerdy metal; presumably more dates will be announced soon.

you lucky fucking bastards. I love Symphony X and would love to get a chance to see them live. I hope they come to Vancouver or I will be pissed off.

And only a week after my birthday. Sounds like a great excuse to a take a trip into the city and spend a fuckton of money.

Peter tracks, gentlemen, I AM SPORTING THEM.

  • Dingas McCloud

    Fuck yes.

SX headlines over Nevermore and Soilwork?? Is that just because N and S already did headliner tours this year?

    • ian

No it’s because Symphony X have outsold Soilwork and Nevermore at this point.

If this is also the lineup for the show Symphony X have booked for the 25th in Montreal, I just came.

Symphony X and Nevermore would be badass…course, it’s in NYC, and I won’t go near that fucking place.

    • zulcon

      uhhhhh ok

      • DemonicLemming

I was there once, New Years’ Eve 2009. The combination of not being able to move, freezing my balls off (even with a wool trench coat and a cool fedora), and having my eardrums raped by girls all combined to create a nightmare experience.

Plus, the whole “parking” thing there is completely fucked. I don’t see how city people do it.

  • Anthony

I think this is just one show of a tour. So it’ll be hitting other places

If this doesn’t come to somewhere near pittsburgh, I’m gonna… gonna… fuck it. I’ll probably just sit at home and cry some.

  • McTool

If a MA show isn’t announced in the future I am driving to New York. I am NOT fucking missing this.

I would go if Nevermore were headlining. I love Symphony X, but I don’t think I could take an hour and a half of them.

Recommended Symphony X albums: “Divine Wings of Tragedy” and “The Odyssey.” Any other album after Divine Wings is also a solid choice, but those two are the ones I’d recommend listening to, first.

I actually liked Paradise Lost the most, but that’s just me. That album’s a monster.

What’s with the stupid fucking hats Warrel Dane?

  • Prettyinblack

Awesome! I wanted to see Powerglove tonight (sorry Metalsucks!) but I couldn’t make it. This is great, but the Nokia (it will always the Nokia to me) has that shitty 11:30 curfew which is enforced so strongly. I hate that.
