EXCLUSIVE CINEMETAL PREMIERE: CHILDREN OF BODOM’S “ROUNDTRIP TO HELL AND BACK”

Thursday, June 9th, 2011 at 2:00pm by

Children of Bodom’s video for “Roundtrip to Hell and Back” has to be one of the most gorgeously photographed performance clips in recent memory. Not only does the absence of I’m-having-a-seizure-style editing allow the viewer to enjoy the gracefulness (yes, we said “gracefulness”) of COB’s live performance, but the images are so textured that not only can you see the sweat dripping from each musician’s brow, you can actually feel the heat from the stage lights. Awesome.

Also awesome: The actual song. No wonder Children of Bodom are the premiere death n’ roll band in the world today.

Below, check out the video, which we are only too happy to be debuting for North American fans. Concert footage of such quality is just the thing to put you in the mood to see Bodom live, which is great, ’cause they’re about to begin a tour with some other orgasm-inducers — namely, Devin Townsend, Obscura, and Septicflesh. Get dates here.

And don’t forget that “Roundtrip to Hell and Back” appears on Children of Bodom’s Relentless, Reckless Forever, which is out now on Spinefarm.

    FUCK YES!

  • BlackVomit

    This band has always sucked…..

    • Nicklas

Then why do you even bother listening to them?
      seems pretty stupid to me.

    • pl80

BlackVomit, just go throw up on yourself.

  • Kuranes

Bodom are great live and this is their best material since Follow The Reaper.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jonathan-Oldham/660455995 Jonathan Oldham

I agree, everything in between was just “Okay”. Although i feel this album has sounds from each of their previous albums. That probably doesnt make any sense… but like this song for instance kinda reminds me of Hate Crew Death Roll and Blooddrunk, especially the keyboard solo at the end

  • MikeForbid

I was about to make a one way ticket to hell joke, but after seeing the video, I’m amazed. They really have gotten pretty refined. This band proves that you don’t have to play at a million miles an hour be be good. I love the main riff.

I wonder where they shot this video at ???

As usual Alexi’s shitty vocals ruin a song.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Guido-Perdomo/501074174 Guido Perdomo

      damn! +150

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jonathan-Oldham/660455995 Jonathan Oldham

If you dont like the vocals then why listen to them, the vocals are key to the sound of the band

    • Zyp

      Its called metall u asshole

  • Topher T.

Alexi plays the solo differently live than the way he does on the record so the video looks stupid when the solo section comes up…

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Santi-Paz/744635111 Santi Paz

I still think Alexi should have been on the Top 25 Modern Metal Guitarists list…

    • slaytanic-mechanic

then fucking vote for him in the readers poll.

it was yesterday and they chose one person, who was paul waggoner

  • http://imthewarheart.tumblr.com warheart

I really like COB, but I didn’t like this album and I think this song is booooooring
I liked the video. Nice colors, nice angles, nice quality, I love the fisheye lens… A simple video, no mistakes. Way better than Smile Pretty for the Devil or Blooddrunk, those videos were kinda ridiculous, haha

    • Falko

100 % agreed!!! this record bores me to death and is nothing in comparison to the material they used to write. don’t want them repeating themselves but i guess even that would be better than this!

  • Andrew

You can always rely on Bodom to release decent metal albums and put on a pretty good show, will be my third time seeing them on July 5th.

  • hatahs

I saw COB live about 4 months ago and they sounded AWFUL. You couldn’t even hear the guitar

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joshua-Smith/1361389363 Joshua Smith

Cant blame the band for that, blame the sound crew.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nick-Troup/100000222162177 Nick Troup

Every time I have seen Bodom, they sounded great live, they put on a great show, and supported great pits. If you saw them at a festival then ofc it will sound bad, festivals are generally not acoustic environments.

      • hatahs

I actually saw them on the Black Label Berzerkus tour with Black Label Society. It was an indoor venue. I talked to another guy who caught them at the show they did right after mine (also at an indoor venue) and he said the same thing. The band had no energy…were very flat..Alexi’s vocals were hardly even audible.

I did hear that they had been touring relentlessly prior to that so maybe they were just burnt out? I know they’ve put on good live shows in the past because of some people I’ve talked to.

Just sucks that they had to suck when I actually saw them.

  • Phil

Love this song! Best of Relentless, Reckless Forever! ;D

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Skylar-Strange/1095951788 Skylar Strange

Meeeeh… Can’t get into anything this band has done since the first 3 records. I keep trying, but it doesn’t work.

    • Milan

Agreed, the first 3 records still stand out to this day as some of the most interesting and inventive melodic death metal. When I listen to the shit they put out today I can’t even believe it’s the same band. They’ve lost that amazing sense of melody and even alexi’s leads suck now, he used to play nice melodic solos (albeit still shreddy), but now it seems everyone of his solos is stupid pentatonic runs with crappy sounding whammy tricks…

  • Guy

This is just awesome. Bodom did it again!

  • Kyle

I’m pretty unfamiliar with Bodom’s discography, but I dig that song. A friend of mine in college was getting into heavier music more quickly than I was, and he always listened to Bodom. At the time, I remember hearing it and thinking it was too heavy/deathish, but now I hear it ans wish a was deathier and more heavy. Still cool though.

  • Brian \m/(-_-)\m/

loving janne’s solo, great song too

  • Warrior

Fuck dEm…! Bodom , dIS bnD aLwaYS mAK mE emOtnL.

  • Colin

idk i think they need to get a little more raw sounding but i like it none the less

  • Chris Coleman

Love to play some parts of this song on my drums, also like that guitar solo its sweet.

  • NickCOB

Will everyone stop bitching and moaning about new COB….
Everyones heard the story that Bodom’s so-called “fans” tell…. blah blah blah, old Bodom was way better, blah blah blah, new Bodom sucks, blah blah blah.
Heres a new story, I call myself a REAL Bodom fan. Of course I like their old records more, but I don’t go around saying how they suck now because I, unlike most people apparently, understand how a band changes their sound over time. And truthfully, they most certainly DO NOT suck now… if any other band slapped their name on Blooddrunk or Relentless Reckless Forever, it would be that band’s best and most popular album. So really people, if you call yourself a fan of a band, then don’t start bashing them, cause you just look like a dick.
Keep goin’ Bodom, I and the rest of your true fans are with you every step \m/

  • joel

this album is fuckin amazing. you just have to listen to it a couple times. and alexi’s vocals are fuckin sweet. and they included all the lyrics with this album. every song on this album is already a classic. fuck yes

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sebastian-Wheeler/1086290528 Sebastian Wheeler

wish they’d go back to their old sound, this new shit sucks.

  • cradlinglucifer

Does Alexi have a headache or something?? I’ve nvr seen him stand in one spot for so long :|

  • sai

no cóż. olewam rrf i czekam na następny album.

    greetings !

    • pl80

Ja myśle, że to jest lepsze niż Blooddrunk (album). No wiesz, oni…starość nie radość. Wymiatają, ale nie tak jak dawniej. Mam nadzieje, że spełni się twoje marzenie. Pozdr.

  • ADAM

CHILDREN OF BODOM BEST BAND IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!COBHC

  • pl80

Not too extraordinary (the video that is, the song is fantastic). LACK OF ENERGY from Alexi. The bugs and fireworks are nice (but they seem a bit out of synch). Just expected something more spontaneous, because the song is excellent.
