REZNORWATCH: VIDEO OF “IMMIGRANT SONG” COVER, STREAM NEW HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo score was released this past Friday, and I spent a good chunk of my weekend listening to it; I’m glad to report that, yes, it’s pretty fuckin’ great. But if, for some reason, you’re still not sold, here are two more things which will hopefully entice you:

  • A video for the cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” that Reznor and Ross recorded with Karen O. from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (and which appeared in the film’s first teaser trailer back in May) is now available for viewing here. Apparently it’s actually the opening credits sequence from the film. Fincher has devised some pretty memorable opening credit sequences in the past (like the one from Fight Club and the one from Se7en, which, not coincidentally, features a remix ofNine Inch Nails’ “Closer”), and this doesn’t quite live up to that legacy… but maybe it’ll seem more awesome within the context of the film itself?
  • How to Destroy Angels, Reznor and Ross’ project with vocalist Mariqueen Maandig (a.k.a. “Mrs. Trent Reznor”), performs another cover on the soundtrack, this one of Bryan Ferry’s “Is Your Love Strong Enough?” And that cover is now streaming here. I really dig it — Ferry’s original song is pretty good, but its style has not aged very well, so I welcome the update. That being said, if you’re not especially tolerant of sad-sack pop music, it might not be your cup of tea.
