The debut album from The Red Chord guitarist Mike “Gunface” McKenzie’s Stomach Earth was the release that I predicted would fuck our faces off this year… but I was recently starting to become worried that it might not actually see the light of day in 2012. But it looks like my worries were unfounded, ’cause last week McKenzie announced via Facebook that “The record is now complete,” and then earlier this week, he posted the cover art:

Metal Injection tells me that the piece is called An Invocation by the artist Sophie Penrose, and while I’m not entirely sure a) what the heck this creature is or b) what’s being invoked, I do really, really dig it. There’s a kind of medieval tapestry quality to the thing that I’m into. I mean, I guess on the most basic level, what I’m saying is, “it looks really cool.” And the music, I have little doubt, will match.

Hopefully Stomach Earth’s debut will have an official release soon; it’s being put out by Black Market Activities.
