Metallica Partner with Urban Outfitters for Exclusive Clothing Line

Metal clothing is in. On top of the many celebrities who’ve been spotted wearing metal garb in recent years — Rihanna, various Kardashians, Kanye West, Justin Bieber and more — it’s now common to see metal t-shirts amongst the racks at major retailers. Even the suave Swedish clothing outfitter H&M had shirts from Motorhead, Guns N’ Roses and others on the racks when I visited their Brooklyn outpost to buy a dress shirt recently (hey, even us scumbags gotta look nice sometimes).

And now Urban Outfitters is getting in on the game in a big way: they’ve partnered with Metallica for an exclusive clothing line.

The designs are pretty bold: several of the shirts offer all-over prints with a tie-dye style wash (!). Two of them are collaborations with renowned metal artist Pushead, so at least they’ve got some cred in their corner.

But yeesh! Is any longtime Metallica fan actually going to wear these things? It doesn’t matter, I suppose; that’s probably not the audience they’re going after. Metallica are a fashion accessory now.
