HOW DO YOU DESTROY ANGELS? DROWN THE F*CKERS.

It was just last week that we first heard about How to Destroy Angels, the new outfit from Trent Reznor and his wife, Mariqueen Maandig; and now here we are, and Pitchfuck already has the group’s debut song, “A Drowning.”

So what do we think? Personally, I fucking love this song. I predicted that HTDA would “sound more or less like late-era NIN,” and it does; swap out Maandig’s vocals for Reznor’s, and this basically sounds like a hybrid of “All the Love in the World” and “The Line Begins to Blur” from With Teeth.

The melody line and lyrics even sound like they came from the mind of Reznor; of course, that’s purely speculative and based only on almost twenty years of worshipping Trent’s every nut sweat, but if you told me that Maandig basically came in and just recorded what Reznor told her to, I’d believe you.

So beyond the fact that this first song is terrific… we still don’t know much. Even Fitchpork says “All we know about this track is that it was mixed by Alan Moulder, who has worked with Nine Inch Nails in the past,” and HTDA’s self-titled debut EP is expected  sometime “this summer.”

Also, is the third person in this picture with Trent and Mariqueen frequent NIN-collaborator Atticus Ross? And, if so, can we then assume that he’s an official member of the band?

(I also love how Trent is too cool to face the camera. I love Trent, but that’s moronic. We all still know it’s you, Trent, and you’re still the primary reason we care about this project – even if your wife is a good singer, and is pretty hot to boot.)

Soooo… yeah. I guess give the song a listen and let us know what you think in the comments section. There’s also some new teaser videos on the band’s official website. Presumably more info about How to Destroy Angels will now become rapidly available.
