DEVILDRIVER CAUGHT RELEASING NEW SONG “DEAD TO RIGHTS”

See what I did there?

ANYWAY, I’m sitting here listening to said new DevilDriver song (which is available for download here for the low low cost of giving up your e-mail address’ cherry) for the second time now, my thought is basically this: it’s a good song, and I wonder if anyone besides the DevilDriver faithful will care.

My personal history with DevilDriver is more or less as follows: in 2003, they released their debut album, and I really didn’t even notice. I think the words “Featuring the Dude from Coal Chamber” somehow failed to entice me or something, I dunno. But then I heard The Fury of Our Maker’s Hand a year later, and I liked it so much that I suddenly stopped praying for a PPV Morgan Rose versus Dez Fafara throwdown.

And then the band released Fury 2, and then they released Fury 3: The One with the Owl on the Cover, and while those were both perfectly enjoyable records, I haven’t revisited them since their original releases. Because it’s very, very easy to take a band for granted when they keep pulling out all the same tricks. And this holds true despite the fact that DevilDriver have worked with a series of great producers (Colin Richardson, Jason Suecof, Logan Mader, and now, Mark Lewis) and often tour with awesome bands.

But maybe I’m wrong. I tend to think that bands like AC/DC and Slayer are the exceptions that prove the rule, but I could be way off-base.

Download the new DevilDriver song here and let us know what you think. It’s from their new album, Beast, which Roadrunner will release on February 22.
