IS DAVE MUSTAINE BECOMING LESS DELUSIONAL?

No. No he is not.

Mustaine’s latest declaration sure to elicit responses only of “Okay, sssssuuurrre, Dave, whatever you say,” from all rational people was delivered to a Dallas Radio station earlier this week:

“I’ve talked to Lars and James about me and David [Ellefson] doing a supergroup record with Lars and James. Well, James said ‘no,’ but it’s still kind of out there in the air. I’m gonna keep hammering on him. It’s on my bucket list.”

Hetfield said “no?” Frankly, I am shocked. SHOCKED, I say. Who could have ever seen that coming? Hetfield is a gajillionaire rock star and Mustaine is the guy he fired without discussion thirty years ago! I can’t believe he wouldn’t jump at the chance to re-join Mustaine in a new venture! I mean, after all, he’d only have to ditch fifty percent of his band to make it happen. It’s not like he could have done that at anytime anyway by just re-hiring Mustaine, since we all know that Mustaine has no regrets about being kicked out of Metallica, and would therefore never, ever ditch Megadeth in a heartbeat.

Actually, the thing about this that disappoints me isn’t that it proves, yet again, that Mustaine is not all there, so to speak. It’s that Mustaine would really want to do this at all. Creatively speaking at least, Megadeth has been kicking Metallica’s ass for some time now. Why would Mustaine wanna throw that all away by adding Elvis vocals and drumming with all the rhythm and groove of Navin R. Johnson dancing?

Oh, right. Silly me.

By the way, I first read this quote on Metal Injection, and you should really check out their post on the subject too; they’ve got a story about Mustaine being super-nice to a reporter recently that is a must-read.
