HAS NAVENE KOPERWEIS JOINED DARKEST HOUR?

UPDATE, 4:43pm EST: Navene himself has confirmed to us via email that he has NOT joined Darkest Hour. Oh well!

Original Post:

Not two weeks after MetalSucks named him the twelfth best modern metal drummer, Navene Koperweis announced that he’d left Animals as Leaders, the band that elevated his status to a member of the drumming elite. Navene didn’t have much to say about the reasons behind the split at the time, only that it was amicable, he was grateful for the opportunity and he wanted to pursue his electronic music project “Navene K.” Now, less than a month later, we might have an answer as to why he left AAL at the top of their game. MetalSucks reader Ricky S. noticed early this morning that Navene has changed the employment status on his personal Facebook page, and if that’s to be believed, Navene is now the drummer of Darkest Hour.

Worth noting is that Navene also changed his “education” status to Harvard University. To my knowledge Navene did not go to Harvard, and I highly doubt he’s about to go there now. So it’s quite possible this whole thing is just a giant troll.

But there’s a whole lot about a potential Navene / Darkest Hour matchup that makes sense. Navene is a drummer without a band and Darkest Hour are a band without a drummer; with all due to respect to the guy who played with them on their last tour (who seemed to do a fine job), I can’t recall seeing an announcement that he’d officially joined the band, and nothing with Darkest Hour’s membership seems permanent these days. From Navene’s perspective, maybe he feels this represents a step up in his career (even though AAL are doing pretty great these days), or maybe the split with AAL was not as hunky-dory as it was made to seem in the press.

Anyway, this should in no way be taken as fact until we get official word on the matter via press release, the band’s label or management, or from the dudes themselves. But Navene Koperweis in Darkest Hour sure is an interesting combo to think about.
