SH*T THAT COMES OUT TODAY: OCTOBER 9, 2012

Hey MetalSucks awesomes it’s me Anso DF! What’s up! lol Say, can I ask for a hearty round of applause for your weekly Shit That Comes Out Today host, he of the name Shanbomb? That hunk straight up busts his buns every week in service of STCOT and we all get so much from his tireless work! He returns next week, but by all means holler at brah down in the comments and @ShanbombMS. Okay now on to these hard and heavy new releases LET’S PARTY!

SH*T THAT COMES OUT TODAY: OCTOBER 9, 2012The Acacia Strain
Death Is The Only Mortal (Rise)
On a playlist with: Biohazard, Minor Threat, Murder City Devils
Listen Death Is The Only Mortal full stream (here)
Read Axl Rosenberg MetalSucks review (here)

I’m bummed atm cuz this wknd I was set to hang with these awesome bros, but I was forced to brick on them. Ugh it would’ve been way better partying than the partying I ultimately undertook on Saturday, when I kept getting caught staring blankly cuz in my mind was running a jittery reel of their superior and way hotter partying, the clubs, the strippers and drug piles, the bystanders singed by boner heat. Proportions of their fun got more grotesque each time I re-zoned out, imagined them ballin’, and cursed my luck. It sucks too cuz I had kinda hoped to catch a fan’s fever for The Acacia Strain from one of the awesome bros, a deft contextualizer and TAS fan. Cuz all I hear is a silly man shouting in my face.

SH*T THAT COMES OUT TODAY: OCTOBER 9, 2012The Birthday Massacre
Hide And Seek (Metropolis)
On a playlist with: Bis/Return To Central, Solar Twins, Katatonia/Night Is The New Day
Listen Hide And Seek full stream (here)

It’s cool if u listen to The Birthday Massacre’s Hide And Seek with all the reservations due an album that’s streaming on Revolver (no offense). And no one would fault u for turning up your regal schnoz at any band photographed as vaguely undead dudes flanking a raven-haired chanteuse. And certainly u are not a fan of Orgy or Deadsy or jesus Static-X, so don’t hate yourself for gagging at Hide‘s flabby beats and bwongy synths. In fact, I recommend u do all that stuff, cuz then your low expectations can be best shattered by the genius of this awesome record, this reminder of the conquest of songs over styles, a focus on freight not vessel and on boobz not bras. Awesome jamz so turn the shit up!

SH*T THAT COMES OUT TODAY: OCTOBER 9, 2012Enslaved
Riitiir (Nuclear Blast)
On a playlist with: Bathory, Voivod, Opeth
Listen “Veil Burners” (here) “Thoughts Like Hammers” (here)
Read Sammy O’Hagar MetalSucks review (read)

O MetalSucks reader, u prob have heard enough about this Enslaved record. After all, it was five weeks ago that The Obelisk printed an album review of like 3000 words. Then Pitchfork spent 800 of their own words complaining about that review and the perception that the Enslaved fan community intended to canonize the album before having heard it. Shit, we at MetalSucks rushed proceedings for the psyche-black metallist’s eighth album when we hastily hailed its release in last week’s STCOT — and that’s after MS review god Sammy O’Hagar’s September 18 headline calling Riitiir “too good for words.” So hey how about we discuss something else lol. Something fresh, like what u think of Devin Townsend’s Epicloud album? The new iPhone’s pretty slick huh? Who’s smarter, Democrats or Republicans?

SH*T THAT COMES OUT TODAY: OCTOBER 9, 2012In Alcatraz 1962
The Drive (Standby)
On a playlist with: The Ghost Inside, Papa Roach, Motionless In White
Listen “Aspirations” (here)

Let’s acknowledge that there are many shades of “liking” something, and because we “like” the thing does not imply that we think it is “good.” Some stuff that we love is crappy garbage; some stuff we admire but don’t listen to at all. Right? If we agree on that point, we’ve effectively eradicated the concept of heckling bands and shitting on their fans: Call their band awful, they might agree and shrug. Or think of it this way: I just got super-dissed for rocking that Chad Kroeger Spiderman song “Hero” by a friend who was pocketing Taco Bell food on the way in to the movies. I just pointed to his food like, Same thing brah! Plus we were seeing retrded ass Taken Too so the concept was up in his face, but his application of it was inconsistent, the dick. Okay whew I feel better! Thanks so much for hearing me out on that U guys are the best! Now jeez I’m almost out of space to talk about awesome In Alcatraz 1962. Their new al

SH*T THAT COMES OUT TODAY: OCTOBER 9, 2012Weapon
Embers And Revelations (Relapse)
On a playlist with: Satyricon, Celtic Frost, Nile
Listen Embers And Revelations full stream (here)

It’s weird but some extreme metal sounds small and mortal. On one hand, u can crank Watain and imagine Earth falling into darkness, tanks rolling, and huge trees punching each other like FUCK IT. Crank the last two Marduks and drown out your screaming lawnmower and duet with a jackhammer. Crank this Weapon record and um hold on tight as your mind is filled with images of like four or five guys playing metal in a room. U see a window behind the drummer and wall-to-wall stage frowns. It’s just not apocalyptic that way. But Embers isn’t a loss and the explanation for that requires one word: guitars dude! Weapon’s guitar dude(s) rule(s) the first three songs, then by “Liber Lillith” blam there’s a solo (!) and a really cocky theme thing (!!) in its superb coda (!!!). And u will know what I mean when stating that then Embers really gets going. In fact let’s get the name(s) of the(se) awesome stud(z): Rum Sutur and Vetis Monarch (also vocals). I’m not worthy!

SH*T THAT COMES OUT TODAY: OCTOBER 9, 2012YoungBlood
No Retreat (Eönian)
On a playlist with: Babylon A.D., BulletBoys, Steelheart
Listen “Pump It Up” (here)

I first experienced the silly camp of The Darkness on a Masa Ito-hosted radio show, and I got confused as shit cuz Ito gave no forewarning of its weirdness. I bet that he’d read the jam (“Get Your Hands Off My Woman”) as a straight rock song, and that its cheek and wink-wink pomp had been lost in English-to-Japanese translation. So I was listening at my kitchen table all perplexed/high, like, “What country is this band from? Are they for real? That’s a man? Holy shit, what must they dress like?” In other words: I was totally not in on the fun, but raging to the jam (for a few weeks until I saw a video and was like “Ohhhhhh I seeee!”). So now let’s take care with the similar but inverse case of YoungBlood: They are sincere and irony-free. They are not from Europe, where unabashedly earnest hair rock is accepted. They are pure up-with-party-people ’80s smile glam from Indy. But like The Darkness, they are fuckin awesome!
