Philip H Anselmo & The Illegals

Phil Anselmo has announced his first-ever solo tour, which isn’t all that surprising, given that his first-ever solo albumWalk Through Exits Only (okay so technically the album is by “Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals,” but c’mon now), on July 16.

He’s also announced that one of the support acts will be Warbeast, which is also not all that surprising, given Anselmo’s long-standing relationship with that band: they’re on his label, Housecore, and even released a split with him earlier this year.

But he’s also also announced that the other support act will Author & Punisher, Tristan Shone’s one-man industrial project. And that is kinda surprising; I think Anselmo is much more in touch with the extreme music scene than a lot of other veteran musicians are (it often seems like no one listens to less metal than metal dudes who have been in the game for a long time), but I honestly would not have figured him for an electronica guy. (I guess I was confusing him with Zakk Wylde.) In any case, I think it’s awesome that he’s taking Shone out on the road with him. Insanely cool music video aside, I’m still not as sold on A&P (the musical project, not the supermarket) as a lotta other people seem to be, but Vince says it’s an awesome live experience and I’m all for being sold on them. Him. It. Whatever.
