When Emperor announced that they were reuniting to headline next year’s edition of Wacken, I naturally assumed that announcements of more shows would soon follow:

“While additionally shows haven’t been announced, it’s hard for me to imagine that this is gonna be a one-off thing — I’d wager we’ll soon be hearing about Emperor playing fests all across Europe, presumably to be followed by tours in other territories. I could be wrong about that, I suppose, but… I dunno, that’s how these usually go these days, ain’t it?”

Well, good news/bad news. The good news is, the band — whose latest incarnation will feature Ihsahn, Samoth, and, for the first time since 1993, Faust on drums — is going to play other shows, and, furthermore, they’ll be performing their classic album In The Nightside Eclipse in its entirety (2014 will be the release’s twentieth anniversary). The bad news is, the band says that “There will be no new studio album or a worldwide tour, only a few exclusive festival appearances next year, to mark the celebration of this landmark album.”

Now, obviously, things could change… especially if someone offers the band enough moolah to do a bigger tour. But if you feel like you absolutely must see this reunion or you’ll simply die of heartbreak, you may wanna call your travel agent.

We’ll let you which other fests the band is playing as soon as they make an announcement.
