The Great Old Ones - Tekeli-Li

French black metal outfit The Great Old Ones are Lovecraft nerds through and through; not only is their name taken from that legendary horror author’s work, but their new album, Tekeli-Li, is entirely based on At the Mountains of Madness. I guess that makes the massive and horrifying riff which kicks off “Antarctica,” the new Tekeli-Li track that MetalSucks’ own Kim Kelly just premiered over at Pitchfork, more of a shoggoth marching riff than an elephants marching riff.

But potato and I like potahto: whatever the hell you call “Antarctica,” it’s undeniably awesome. This is the kind of track which sounds so evil that if someone told you playing it could actually conjure a menagerie of terrifying creatures, you might believe them. Ol’ H.P. would be so proud!

Check out “Antarctica” here. Tekeli-Li comes out April 16 on Les Acteurs de l’Ombre Productions.
