1349’s forthcoming new album Massive Cauldron of Chaos is gonna be a wicked pissah, eh? I’ve never been able to get much into the band before: they didn’t really stand out from the pack of similar black metal acts, and the degree to which they take themselves so seriously at their live shows makes me chuckle. But “Slaves” and “Cauldron,” the two songs we’ve heard so far, have both been absolute rippers, the kind that inspire all sorts of bad things in the hearts of listeners. And, equally as important, the production and mixing on these tracks is a HUGE step up from anything the band’s done in the past; finally what each band member is playing has the clarity it deserves.

Brand new track “Exorcism” continues in that vein, and it’s a five-and-a-half minute long journey to boot. Massive Cauldron of Chaos comes out September 30 on Season of Mist.
