Though it has not been officially confirmed by the band or his family at this time, it has been reported that Sakevi Yokoyama, frontman for legendary Japanese metalpunks G.I.S.M. has died. No other details are available at this time but numerous artists have posted tributes to the singer, who proved to be influential to artists around the world and across generations.

G.I.S.M. formed in 1981, making them one of the early Japanese hardcore bands. They released their debut album, Detestation, in 1983 and second album, MAN (Military Affairs Neurotic), in 1987. They released their third and final album, SoniCRIME TheRapy, nearly 15 years later before breaking up.

In 2020, Relapse reissued the band’s music for the first time, exposing them to a wider audience.

G.I.S.M. guitarist Randy Uchida died in 2001 and drummer Tohru “Monamour” Hiroshima died last year. MetalSucks extends our condolences to Sakevi’s friends and family.
