Corey Taylor really shouldn’t lash himself and the rest of Slipknot for inadvertently revealing the identity of their new bass player, Alessandro Venturella (also of Krokodil). It wasn’t the result of dumbness — it was a fair-and-square super catch by a sharp metal dude. Like Kobe drilling a jumper over the arms of Tony Allen: Great defense, better offense. Yet this week, Taylor definitively assigned credit for the slip on a show for teens:

We’re keeping [the new bassist’s identity] kind of on the DL, but not really, ’cause somebody already pointed out the tattoos. I was, like, ‘Why didn’t we make him wear gloves?’ I was so upset. I was, like, we thought of all this stuff. We put the hood on him and then the mask, and it was, like, ‘It’s really hot, guys,’ And then there is his tattoos for everybody [to see]. I was, like, ‘Well, we missed the mark on that one.’

That’s a classy take on it: “We fucked that up.” D’oh. They’re overthinking it anyway. But ahem, let us now move on to news that’s about MetalSucks: Taylor was interviewed on Rise To Offend podcast and was asked to comment on the MetalSucks report that ex-Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison was notified of his recent firing via singing telegram. Hilariously, Taylor pointed out that this was untrue:

I almost wanna propagate the rumor that it was me dressed like a clown, singing to him. Anybody who thinks that’s real doesn’t know me at all, doesn’t know this band at all. … No, that’s not true at all, and anybody who thinks it is is a douche.

Host: And then they had a whole transcript of the [singing telegram’s] lyrics.

The song, I know! I read it! It’s ridiculous! Ha ha. … Oh my god. That just shows you the level of crazy that surrounds this band — that anyone would take that seriously.

But it’s weird cuz it sounds like Taylor took it seriously. Or at least, he took seriously the prospect that others would take it seriously. Which is impossible, so does that make Taylor a silly person? Listen at about 22:45, you’ll know it’s coming once he gets done ruining Worship Music for everybody.
