Stone Temple Pilots Story of the Day #1: Scott Weiland’s War Against Coats Rages On
Scott Weiland says he hasn’t shot up in thirteen years. But even if we take him at his word, it’s impossible to watch theses videos from a recent performance with his new band, Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts, and think, “Yeah, that dude is 100% sober.” If it’s not heroin, than it’s meth or crack or barbiturates or weed in amounts of which even a seasoned pothead such as myself can only dream. Dead bodies have given livelier performances.
There are two clips here. In the first, Weiland is still doing the same basic stage moves he always does, but in slow motion, as though he knows he’s supposed to slither n’ shimmy, but just can’t make his muscles work fast enough. And then, when he sings, he gives Vince Neil a run for his money in the “slurred lyrics” department.
In the second, Weiland once again does battle with his arch nemesis: coats.
And just for laughs, here’s Weiland’s other infamous on-stage war with a jacket, from 2008:
