Happy Friday, MetalSucks reader! Welcome to MetalSucks Friday 5, our awesome series that appears every Friday (duh) on MetalSucks (duhh) and involves the quantity of five (duhhh).

Here’s how it works: A list of best/worst/weirdest/whatever five somethings is posted by one of your beloved MetalSucks contributors or by one of our buds (like you?). Then you, our cherished reader, checks it out, has a chuckle, then chimes in with a list of the same. No sweat, just whatever springs to mind, k? (Just like that movie about those losers working at a Chicago record store!) After all, it’s Friday — the day dedicated by the gods to mindless, fun time-wasting.

Today, let’s talk about most frequently attended concerts!

THE FIVE

What bands have you seen in concert the most (proudly and on purpose)?

THE LISTER

1. Deftones
Concerts: 10

In my heart, there’s a tiny scroll that lists bands whose releases are “automatic buys.” That means my wallet doesn’t seek approval from my brain in order to crack open and start spewing dollars for their new shit, sound unheard. No discussion, just grab it. Likewise, I’ll stand up and depart my home on impulse, like a droid, in order to attend concerts by certain bands. Bad weather? Don’t care. Shitty venue? I’ll cope. No money? No fucks. Go ahead, Deftones, set a tour date for the inside of Dave Mustaine’s colon. I’ll be there.

·

2. Iron Maiden
Concerts: 5

My mere handful of concert experiences with Iron Maiden pales in comparison to the 200+ shows attended by this awesome dude from Spain. But catching up won’t be too hard for a fancy journalist like me. I’ll just embed with the band for the next seven years. Coming soon to MetalSucks: A four-part series on the scent of Adrian Smith’s hair.

3. Aerosmith, Rush
Concerts: 6 each?

I’ll note here that all tallies are approximate. Most concerts were local. Some felt like they were taking place on the moon. But also the sun. It’s like you’re on PCP when attending a big awesome spectacle like Rush or Aerosmith; imperturbable, impervious to reason and boundary. A smilebot. Party.

.

4. Slayer
Concerts: 11-15

Slayer is a part of our lives. We see them every tour. Around 1998, they played in my area like fifty times in 18 months. Headlining, Ozzfest, Tattoo The Earth, it was awesome.

·

5. Steel Panther
Concerts: 35

That number feels a bit low tbh. Happy Friday :)

Your turn! Have a great wknd!
