Randy Blythe Has Some Interesting Thoughts on Donald Trump

Randy Blythe always has interesting things to say about politics and, well, pretty much everything else. Not only do we generally agree with the man’s viewpoints on life in general, but he waged his own [albeit unsuccessful] Presidential campaign in 2012.

So the man ought to know a thing or two about another independent man currently on the Presidential campaign trail: Donald Trump. In a recent interview with Metal Insider,

Speaking of that, any thoughts on Donald Trump?

I think he’s going to burn himself out. I think he’s going to say something so overarchingly stupid that people are finally going to be unable to accept what he’s saying anymore. But I almost think he’s a purposeful clown, a tool. I don’t know if he really wants to be President. He might just be a foil for the Republican party to say, “we gotta be tough right now in our international relations policy but not with this guy,” so they’ll get someone who looks more moderate into office. They’ll say we still need to be strong, hawkish right now but no, not Donald Trump. I mean.. it’s ludicrous the things that he says. He’s making shit up.

Yeah, all of a sudden Ted Cruz is the voice of reason.

Exactly. I’m trying to read between the lines here and see if that’s what’s going on. If they’re in a back room somewhere and Donald Trump is saying, (in Trump voice), “I’m gonna say that we should pull a Nazi Germany maneuver and make all Muslims wear a yellow crescent moon on their arm” like the Gestapo did with the Jews in Nazi Germany. He could just be a clown. If he is the president though, I am leaving America till he’s gone.

Here’s the thing: people have been saying “Trump is going to burn himself out” for the better part of the past year, and it hasn’t happened. People have been saying “he’s going to say something so overarchingly stupid…” for the better part of the past year, too, and every time Trump says something even stupider, more offensive than before, it only seems to boost his poll numbers. I hope Blythe is right, but I fear he isn’t.

I also don’t think he’s a foil for the Republican party — I think the Republican party is petrified of Trump and doesn’t know how to handle him. He’s certainly right about the “clown” status, though… Trump is a total circus.

In the interview Blythe also speaks about Lamb of God’s upcoming tour with Anthrax, Deafheaven and Kylesa, his thoughts on Deafheaven, and how bands should step up security at shows after the recent Paris terrorist attacks.

Spoiler alert: Blythe will appear on an upcoming episode of The MetalSucks Podcast! Stay tuned.
