Shit That Comes Out Today

Sh*t That Comes Out Today: July 1-8, 2016

  • David Lee Rothmund

Hello MetalSucks reader! Welcome to Shit That Comes Out Today, your Satanic bible of this week’s (and next week’s!!!) heavy new releases. We list ‘em, we spotlight ‘em, we link you to their preview jams and full streams — and we usually stick ‘em in a fancy Spotify playlist too (below) — all for your jammage! Now crank this shit up.

Boundless Obscenity
On a playlist with: Origin, Beneath The Massacre, Artificial Brain
Listen Boundless Obscenity full stream (here)
out July 1

Some bands are what they is: Brain Drill is the sonic equivalent of a rusty-spoon lobotomy. Fans of the mercilessly-mowing-down-the-crowd-with-many-notes band Origin will find high pleasure in Boundless Obscenity. So yes, that’s what it is: obscenity, putridity, etc. Too far, too much, too loud, too many notes, and seriously way too goddamn much fun.

interarmagallowsInter Arma
Paradise Gallows (Relapse)
On a playlist with: Windhand, Krallice, Withered
Listen Paradise Gallows full stream (here)
out July 8

Some bands do no wrong: enter Inter Arma and their awesome proggy doom. Their toppest work heretofore has been The Cavern, their 45-minute, single song album which turned out to be  2014’s star bukkake recipient. Paradise Gallows is more depraved and more horrific than yore’s works: You’re gonna wanna make love it to slowly, smoothly, sensually, seriously.

No Light, No Tunnel (Hex)
On a playlist with: Diabolus In Musica, Converge, bad attitudes
Listen “Teeth” and “Needles” (here)
out July 8

Some bands burst from their genres like a baby Xenomorph: Bleak is that Xenomorph, yet rather than spitting acid and being a dick, it elects to punch the fucking life out of you, out of mercy. Between serious iron fists and nuclear downpicking skills and screaming into the mic too closely, No Light, No Tunnel lives up to the name. Enter: fuck, kill, fuck, kill. And you thought hardcore was just too flimsy!

In Reverence Of Forever (Willowtip)
On a playlist with: Ulcerate, Rivers Of Nihil, Decrepit Birth
Listen “Lake Morose” and “The Orator” (here)
out July 8

Some bands are on to something: Mephistopheles is close to something, to say as much. In Reverence Of Forever is a wicked sick blackened death album. And like Rivers Of Nihil, they’ve carved out a unique “tone” (save for sound, too broad a concept). Again, this album is a solid choice, but be ready to be in heat when news of a follow-up hits (fingers and toes crossed).

Towards Inevitable Ruin (Season Of Mist)
On a playlist with: saving money the smart way
Listen Towards Inevitable Ruin full stream (here)
out July 8

Some bands go way overboard in post-production. Defiled is not one of those bands. They skipped right over post-prod, actually. It’s like a fucking experiment … and does it work? Depends. And that’s a boring question, the better one being: have we all been fucking spoiled silly by effects, clips, edits, and smoothing-outs? Defiled is getting at something here.

Invent, AnimateInvent, Animate
Stillworld (Tragic Hero)
On a playlist with: Architects, After The Burial, Polyphia
Listen “Celestial Floods” (here) “White Wolf” (here)
out July 8

Some bands are fucking excellent despite your vehement disagreeance: Invent, Animate is one of those bands. Metalcore, deathcore, dork-o clean singing, overrun guitar riffs i.e. zeros and ones: Stillworld is basically expectedly basic as expectedly basic gets. Yet, a big yet: I,A’s precision is micrometer-sharp, and holy shit you can actually feel the heart they put into this. Bestcore? Goodenoughcore: it’s not as good as 2014’s  Everchanger.
