Mastodon Have Finished Recording Their New Album, No Idea What It Will Sound Like

0

Mastodon are no strangers to change. Each and every album they release seems to push their sound in new directions and their next will probably be no different. The band recently announced that they finished recording with producer Brendan O’Brien, with whom they’d last worked on their 2009 release Crack the Skye.

That’s all great, but what the hell does it mean? Nothing, aside from the fact that it might be time to start the hype train. Here’s the press release:

So what can one expect from Mastodon’s seventh studio exploration? Well… never ones to repeat, Mastodon embrace the challenge to continually push themselves toward an elevated trajectory with each new release. Their fearless blend of styles, textures and concepts have created a sonic pathway all their own. Each band member contributes their personal genetic footprint into their collective sound that has not only inspired contemporaries but has alighted fans and critics to espouse their appreciation.

That certainly doesn’t explain a lot. Personally, I hope this album ends up being an acid jazz release featuring guest spots from Pharrell and 2 Chainz. Maybe then they can make music videos with a bunch of jiggling asses in them without getting lambasted for it. As of right now there’s a lot speculation, but here are the things we do know: mixing will begin soon and we’ll have more details before early 2017.

Hooray!
