Former Members of Ghost Suing Papa Emeritus

Update, 1:34 p.m.: Well, gee, we thought $22,000 was a low figure. The former Nameless Ghouls apparently wanted Papa to be fined that much if he doesn’t hand over financial papers (presumably so they can prove he owes them more money). My apologies for the shittiness of my initial translation.

According to Sweden’s Corren.se, four former Nameless Ghouls are suing Big Papa (né Tobias Forge) for 200,000 SEK, or roughly $22,000, for “missing wages and allowances for several years.”

The lawsuit further alleges:

  • That Papa managed the band without insight from any of its other members, despite the fact that they were supposed to be equal partners.
  • Papa’s company has collected all revenue earned by the band, including merch sales and licensing of their music, but claimed Ghost was not profitable.
  • In 2012,  the band members received “sporadic” compensation from Papa only when he was “under pressure,” while continuing to plead poverty.
  • Twice in 2016, band members refused to sign what they claim was a “slave contract.”
  • “Relations between the band leader and the other became increasingly chilly.”

Although the article does not state the names of the musicians who filed the suit, it does specify that Martin Persner, who recently outed himself as a former Nameless Ghoul, is not part of the suit. Ghost have undergone ten line-up changes since their inception, so that’s a lot of possible suspects.

Papa himself declined comment for the article on account of this being a legal matter.

More news as we get it.

Thanks: Matt F.
