For the First Time, Ghost’s Papa Emeritus Will Unmask Himself… on the Radio

Ghost’s Tobias Forge — better known to the world as ‘Papa Emeritus’ — is going to “publicly unmask himself for the first time since the band’s formation,” according to Blabbermouth. It would seem, however, that this is gonna be a metaphorical unmasking: it will take place on the Swedish radio program Sommar i P1. So unless the Swedes do radio way differently than the rest of us, this will only be an aural unmasking.

Which isn’t to say the episode won’t potentially be very, very interesting. The premise of Sommar i P1 is very cool: one prominent Swede runs the entire show, playing whatever music and discussing whatever topics he or she likes. And Forge says that he’ll use his time “to talk about my background and about how things never quite turn out the way you think they will,” which, presumably, is a reference to the recent Ghost legal brouhaha. If nothing else, it should tell us a whole lot more about the behind-the-scenes machinations of Ghost than we know now.

It will also be interesting to see if this marks the beginning of Ghost’s Lick it Up phase — by which I mean a time during which they drop the make-up and gimmicks. I can’t really see that happening, nor would I want it to — the theatrical silliness is part of the fun of Ghost — but stranger things have happened…
