Emil Werstler (ex-Chimaira, ex-Dååth) Releases First Music from Verlorener Project

It’s been a long time since we first learned about Verlorener, the new project from guitar god Emil Werstler of Dååth and Chimaira fame… but now we finally have some music to check out in the form the track “Devil in the Room”! Huzzah!

Unsurprisingly, it was worth the wait — this is some weird shit, and I mean that as a compliment. It’s not metal, but it’s still gnarly. It’s got slide guitar and drum loops and boogie woogie licks and orchestral stuff and jazzy bits (Werstler says the track “is heavily influenced by the harmony of Manouche Jazz and late 80’s era Depeche Mode”) and some shredding and a whole mess of other stuff that sounds disparate but Werstler somehow makes work. It’s actually a really great reminder of why I loved that last Dååth album… when Werstler lets his freak flag fly, there’s really no other guitarist like him.

I strongly, strongly encourage you to check out “Devil in the Room” below. Verlorener’s debut album comes out April 6, and reunites Werstler with Dååth producer Mark Lewis.
