Shit That Comes Out Today: April 27, 2018

Going back to your day job after a kickass vacation is dildos, but hey, what can ya do? I’ve been dealing with an abnormal amount of stupid this week and surprisingly, none of that comes from you guys. But in unrelated news, Dimmu Borgir drop a new album next week and if you haven’t seen my review of it already, the album is fucking awful. If you like cheesy opera and boring riffs then Eonian is definitely the album for you. Other than that, this week we have two bands that I had no idea still existed. I don’t care about either of them but I figured the day would never come where I had to write about Godsmack on MetalSucks. Life is crazy, yo.

Shit That Comes Out Today: April 27, 2018Godsmack
When Legends Rise (BMG)
On a playlist with all the other generic butt rock bullshit
Listen: “Bulletproof”

What in the fuck….? Godsmack are still a band? I’d say good God, but the fact that the original kings of butt rock are still around proves there isn’t one. I won’t pretend like I know anything about what this band has been up to since whatever album “Speak” was on, but the fact that they still sound like every other generic radio rock shouldn’t surprise anyone and if it does, you’re probably new to metal. There’s nothing wrong with that, but just know that you should pretend this band doesn’t exist the same way that I apparently have been doing.

Shit That Comes Out Today: April 27, 2018Hawthorne Heights
Bad Frequencies (Pure Noise)
On a playlist with Silverstein, Taking Back Sunday and Senses Fail
Listen: “Just Another Ghost”

I guess make that two bands I didn’t know were still around. I didn’t really care for Hawthorne Heights back in the day and I’m not going to pretend like I care about them now. But as far as emo music goes, this band is an important one so if you ever rode the sadboi music train then you’ll probably feel right at home with a new album from one of emo’s biggest bands. However, if you liked sadboi music, I’d imagine that you were already aware of this coming out and nothing I could possibly say will change your mind about whether or not you listen to it.

Shit That Comes Out Today: April 27, 2018Ingested
The Level Above Human (Unique Leader)
On a playlist with Vulvodynia, Defeated Sanity and Arcanius
Listen: Full album

The first thing that comes to mind when seeing some new music on Unique Leader is rip-your-face-off death metal and tech death. Ingested fit that bill 100% and are easily the best album out this week. That being said, however, there isn’t really a ton I can say about them. Any self-respecting death metal fan will like this band as it’s intense as fuck and packed full of delicious death metal riffs and blast beats. Sound good? It should. And it is.

Shit That Comes Out Today: April 27, 2018Blood Tsunami
Grave Condition (Soulseller)
On a playlist with Mongo Ninja, Aborym and Zyklon
Listen: “Poison Tongue”

Full disclosure: I decided to cover these guys for no other reason than because the name of the band is cool. I’m not particularly cray about the music itself, being a slightly rawer and less evil version of Slayer, but I’m sure there are plenty of you guys out there who will love this. thrash has never been super high on my list of things I like, but that being said, it isn’t bad. Again, if you can learn to love Tom Araya’s vocals then you’ll be just fine with this.

Shit That Comes Out Today: April 27, 2018Wolf King
Loyal To The Soil (Prosthetic)
On a playlist withEntombed, Nails and Converge
Listen: Full album stream

Vince fucking loves this band so I’m going to let him do the talking instead: “Fans of HM-2-driven Entombedcore (Nails, Trap Them, etc.) are gonna lose their shit over Wolf King, but the band offers plenty more to set themselves apart from the pack. As the “blackened” tag would suggest, Wolf King use a dark, frosty sense of melody to convey their musical ideas, and the album is unexpectedly dynamic, with tracks running the gamut from all-out bangers to mid-tempo stomps to slow, post-metal dirges. It delivers on all counts, whether you’re typically fan of this sub-genre of metal or not.” So there ya go. Neilstein is a fanboy. Maybe you should be too.
