Thou Unveil Grimy New Cover of Crowbar’s “The Lasting Dose”

0

Thou have been pushing the boundaries of extreme music since approximately the dawn of time, churning out nearly 40 releases between studio albums, EPs, and splits. 2018 has been a particularly busy year for the Louisiana quartet, with a trilogy of EPs leading up to the release of an entirely separate full-length. Each EP is released on a different label and pursues its own distinct sound:

The House Primordial (Raw Sugar Records, out now) – noisy drone
Inconsolable (Community Records, out now) – quiet acoustic
Rhea Sylvia (Deathwish, July 27th) – melodic grunge

The saga will conclude with the cataclysmic release of Magus on August 31. The full-length album will be a culmination of the ideas from the previous EPs on top of Thou’s signature breed of doom.

So, with all those things in mind, prepare your ears for the final track from Rhea Sylvia: a filthy, disgusting, feedback-infested cover of Crowbar’s “The Lasting Dose.” It pays due homage to their fellow Louisana doom brethren while still holding up as an incredible track in its own right. Listen below and let us know what you think.

Rhea Sylvia is available for pre-order via Deathwish, and Magnus can be pre-ordered via Sacred Bones.
