Meet Blind Rock, the All-Visually Impaired Metal Band
As somebody with no fewer than four (!) blind relatives, all of whom are exceptional musicians, I feel extremely qualified to present you with Blind Rock, a seven-piece metal group of which all members except the drummer are visually impaired. While the visual impairment doesn’t detract from their musical ability in any way (and could very well actually enhance it), the fact that they’re not able to make a living through regular work means that securing the funds to record an album and go on tour is not an easy task.
To make things more difficult, Blind Rock are from Belarus, where rock and metal music aren’t formally banned but are most certainly frowned upon. So they’re looking for some outside support to make their dreams happen. They’ve set up a Kickstarter, stating that “We deserve to play on stage and show others that our handicap is not a sentence and we can live an exciting life on equal terms with the others.” I’m totally biased, but I think it would be very cool to see what Blind Rock can come up with if they’re able to reach their campaign goals. They claim to have already written 12 songs, so at this point, it’s just a matter of logistics.
