Powerman 5000 Announce 20th Anniversary Tour of Tonight The Stars Revolt!

0

Laugh all you want — Powerman 5000 have always been easy fodder — but 2019 is the perfect moment for a nostalgia run by a B-level ’90s industrial band. The industrial metal revival is in full swing, as I’ve been predicting it would be for the past couple of years, with Rammstein and Ministry seeing a resurgence in interest, promising new bands like 3Teeth riding that wave to prominence, and synthwave artists like GosT and Perturbator melding metal with electronic music to rave reviews (as well as actual raves).

That said, the routing of PM5K’s Tonight the Stars Revolt! 20th anniversary tour certainly doesn’t suggest “we’re going for the young, cool kids,” unless the suburbs of the out-of-the-way tertiary markets this tour is playing, like Battle Creek, MI, Pekin, IL and Chippewa Falls, WI, are absolutely popping off and we just don’t know it. One would think the nostalgia card would enable the band to pull a decent crowd in, like, actual cities other than in Texas. But yeah, I dunno, maybe that’s PM5K’s core.
