It’s 2024 and Powerman 5000 Just Released a New Single

I know it may sound preposterous, but Powerman 5000 didn’t go away once Tonight The Stars Revolt did all those years ago. They’ve been around, making music, playing live shows, and generally just existing, with their most recent release being 2020’s The Noble Rot. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they’ve got a new record coming out in a couple weeks called Abandon Ship and earlier today they released a single for it called “Dancing Like We’re Dead.”

In fact, this was the band’s second single off their forthcoming album, with the first appropriately titled “1999”, which was the same year their breakout album released 25 years ago. Described in the press release for this new tune as “trailblazing electro-metal hybridizers,” Powerman 5000 still have that hard rock/metal/electronic feel that’s kinda fun but also kinda cheesy too.

Frontman Spider One remains front and center in this new track, evoking the same sort of spoopy imagery of severed heads and undertakers dancing it up at a rave that his older brother Rob Zombie would probably get down with. As the only original member in the band, he’s the one that ties it all together, really. And for a brief moment in the track, the guitars get to eat a little bit and chug out a fast little riff, so that’s something!

Does this track make you want to head to the “dark side of the dancefloor”? Check it out and let us know in the comments.

Abandon Ship will be released on May 10, but you can pre-order or pre-save your copy today.
