Here’s a New Song From King Hobo, Featuring Members of Clutch, ex-Opeth and MoreThe classic guitar rock revival is now in full swing, with The Night Flight Orchestra leading the charge of acts bringing back ’70s and ’80s AOR inspired by the likes of Journey, Chicago and Night Ranger. Even Ghost are making a push in that direction, with their latest album Prequelle owing more to any of the aforementioned acts than the band’s typical touchstone, Black Sabbath.

There’s another act joining the retro rock revival party, and once again the band features a number of Swedish musicians. King Hobo, consisting of Thomas Juneor Andersson (Kamchatka) on vocals, guitars & percussion, Per Wiberg (Kamchatka / Spiritual Beggars / Candlemass / ex-Opeth) on vocals, bass, and keys, and Jean-Paul Gaster (Clutch) on drums, have just released “Listen Here,” the second single from their forthcoming album Mauga. It’s not as overtly cheesy and AOR-leaning as anything from The Night Flight Orchestra, but it’s got an unmistakeable sense of melody akin to that world, and its mid-paced groove is more likely to inspire some modest booty-shakin’ than it is anything resembling a mosh pit. In short: it’s good! Listen.

Mauga will come out on May 31st via the Clutch-owned record label Weathermaker Music. Pre-order here.
