Dan Briggs (Between The Buried and Me) Releases Mind-Bending Solo EP, Beyond What Is RealDan Briggs of Between The Buried and Me and Trioscapes has just released his new solo EP under the moniker Nightmare Scenarios, and it is not at all what you would expect it to sound like. It’s a trippy, mind-bending experience that I could best describe as the soundtrack to a Twilight Zone musical if for some reason they ever decided to make one. Think singing, melting faces and dancing clowns on airplane wings.

The six-song EP is comprised of a wide variety of sounds and features dense, uneasy arrangements and cinematic soundscapes that keep jazz at the forefront through the use of repeated cymbal patterns. Oh, and did I mention there is a saxophone and a variety of other brass instruments?! Dan comments on his inspirations for the album:

“I feel this is the truest look into my musical background and the things that have made me the musician I am now: from my studies in classical upright bass performance and playing in the pit for musicals, to growing up surrounded by the great music of the ’70s. Nightmare is my opportunity to open myself up and explore the sounds that lead me towards the future.”

Beyond What Is Real is out now via Briggs’ own Hogweed & Fugue Records and is available to purchase physically here, or digitally via Bandcamp. Stream the EP in its entirety below. A full-length album is in the final stages of pre production.
