BALAAM Prove That Los Angeles Ain’t All Sunshine and Movie Stars

When you think “Los Angeles,” you probably think of great weather, glamorous celebrities, and uncommonly beautiful everyday citizens. It is, after all, the town that gestated glam metal, an entire genre dedicated to the subjects of partying and babes. L.A. is thought of as being bright and colorful and maybe a little vapid, not dark and cloudy and brooding and, well, all Norway-esque.

Of course, L.A. has a dark underbelly… and that underbelly now a soundtrack: BALAAM. The project, created entirely by someone known only as ‘Nix,’ is based in the City of Angels, but it sounds so frosty and bleak, you’d think it came from Oslo. Tasmanian devil guitars, pyrotechnic drums, and seething, demonic croaks are punctuated by brief bouts of fat groove, thrashin’ stompage, or shoegazey vocals. It’s venomous, hateful black metal of such magnitude that it actually might throw L.A. into a state of eternal winter. Hope all the movie stars saved their parkas from Sundance!

BALAAM has released four songs to date, all of which you can stream below. You can also buy ’em here for a buck a pop or $2.60 for the lot!
