Metallica Announce They’re Headlining Five U.S. Festivals in Summer 2020, Playing TWO NIGHTS at Each!

0

Metallica’s countdown clock, which launched earlier this week, has finally reached zero, and as expected, the band has announced they will be headlining five major American festivals in 2020: the Sonic Temple Art & Music FestivalLouder Than LifeAftershockEpicenter and Welcome to Rockville.

In a surprising twist, each of those headlining appearance will feature TWO NIGHTS of Metallica performances, each with different setlists! Each festival consists of three days, and Metallica will close both Friday and Sunday nights.

Metallica also posted a livestream on their Facebook page, hosted at their headquarters, starting at noon EDT / 3pm PDT. Danny Wimmer of Danny Wimmer Presents, the organizers of all five festivals, made the announcement. Lars Ulrich is currently taking questions as of press time.

The dates of those festivals are as follows:

Epicenter: May 1-3, Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC
Welcome to Rockville: May 8-10, Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, FL
Sonic Temple: May 15-17, MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, OH
Louder Than Life: Sept 18-20, Highland Festival Grounds at KY Expo Center in Louisville, KY
Aftershock: Oct 9-11, Discovery Park in Sacramento, CA

You can keep an eye on tickets for upcoming Metallica shows, including these festivals, right here.

Tickets for all events go on sale TODAY (October 10) at 12 PM PT/3 PM ET for Fan Club members and for past purchasers of tickets for Danny Wimmer Presents events. The general public onsale begins Monday, October 14 at 9:00 AM PT / Noon ET.

These will be Metallica’s first North American shows since their late 2018 / early 2019 arena tour, which hit mostly smaller markets, and their major city stadium run in 2017. Playing the biggest festivals in America seems like the logical way to conclude the touring cycle following the release of Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, which came out in November of 2016, so this will likely be fans’ final opportunity to catch Metallica live in North America for quite some time.

Rumors that Slipknot (playing two sets) and AC/DC (with Brian Johnson) will join Metallica as headliners on the above festivals have yet to be confirmed. More on that, of course, as we learn it.
