Dark Tranquillity’s Niklas Sundin Debuts New Solo Song “Nyaga”

It’s been a minute since we last heard from Gothenburg melodeath legends Dark Tranquillity. While the follow-up to 2016’s excellent Atoma remains MIA, guitarist Niklas Sundin used the time off to work on his own solo project. Invisible Oranges premiered the new video yesterday. Sundin had this to say about his first solo venture:

“The project has been a couple of years in the making and started out as a way of staying musically creative while on parental leave from Dark Tranquillity. I had recently acquired some new gear for my home studio, and had been thinking about creating ‘electronic’ music for a while, so this was a good opportunity to actually make it happen.”

He’s not the first extreme metal musician to make the transition to electronic music — Enslaved guitarist Ivar Bjørnson’s BardSpec project explores similar territory. Still, the video for “Nyaga” makes a solid case for why more of these guys should branch out like this. Check it out for yourself below:

Mitochondrial Sun comes out February 14, 2020 on Argonauta Records. You can pre-order it here.
