Khôrada (Ex-Agalloch, Ex-Giant Squid) Have Broken Up

Khôrada, the project featuring three former members of Agalloch (guitarist Don Anderson, bassist Jason Walton, and drummer Aesop Dekker) and one former member of Giant Squid (vocalist Aaron John Gregory), have quietly called it quits.

The news comes via a series of little-noticed social media messages Gregory and Walton have posted over the course of the past few weeks. In one, Walton reveals that he has been working to make his Metal Archives page “accurate” — which is notable because Khôrada’s status on that site is now listed as “Split-up.” As to why the band hasn’t released a formal announcement of the break-up, Gregory says that there is “More important shit in the world going on.”

This is a bummer! The band’s one album, 2018’s Salt, was pretty great. But I’m sure the shadow of Agalloch was a tough one under which to exist… especially in light of the one member of Agalloch who wasn’t in Khôrada, John Haughm, being a major asshole who almost seems to have gone out of his way to fuck up that band’s legacy. To say nothing of the fact that after working together for more than twenty years, the trio may have just felt that whatever creative chemistry they have together has simply run its course. Hey, it happens.

So pour one out for Khôrada. Another cool band bites the dust. We’ll be eager to see what all four of these dudes do next. In the meantime, crank Salt in their honor below.
