Well this is, um, interesting.

Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor has revealed to Metal Hammer that he’s created one clown-themed drawing every day of the pandemic lockdown. He was up to 101 illustrations when the interview was published, so even knows how any he’s up to by now.

The drawings, which have been gifted to fellow metal celebs such as Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Joey Jordison (ex-Slipknot), Chino Moreno (Deftones), and the Duplantier brothers (Gojira), often parody famous images, like the cover of Iron Maiden’s The Number of the Beast or the poster for Jaws.

Says Dailor of this most unique hobby:

“It’s this meditation that’s been important to my mental health throughout this experience. Everyone is dealing with it in their own way, but for me it was imperative that I sit down and do this. I draw these two clowns hugging, like, ‘I needed that’, you know what I mean?”

Dailor continued:

“Everybody’s fragile, and feeling kind of sad. Sometimes the clowns would pick them up, and sometimes the clowns would remind them of how special human relationships are and how much they miss everybody.”
