System of a Down Raised Over $600,000 for War Victims in Artsakh

0

On Friday, November 6, System of a Down finally put their long-standing creative and political differences aside to record two new songs, their first pieces of music in 15 years. The two songs served as a political statement to raise awareness around the recently reignited conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the territory of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabagh).

While the band’s fans were understandably extremely excited to hear new music, we’ve now learned they were just as excited to learn about and donate to the cause. According to a press release, System of a Down were able to collect more than $600k in donations through the two tracks, all of which will go towards providing for “those in dire need” via the Armenia Fund. They explained, “Because of you, we will be able to help displaced civilians, young and old, who are affected by the hideous war crimes inflicted upon Artsakh by Azerbaijan and Turkey.”

If you wish to donate, you still can via System’s Bandcamp.

The band has released a new interview featuring all four members talking about their passion for the cause, the motivation behind making new music to raise awareness, and their gratitude towards their fans. You can watch that below.
