Late Deftones Bassist Chi Cheng’s Spoken Word Album Coming Soon

0

Deftones bassist Chi Cheng passed away in 2013 after a car accident left him in a coma in 2008. The album Deftones were working on at the time, Eros, was indefinitely shelved, and with it Cheng’s final recorded performances have sat idle ever since.

But Deftones fans will now finally get something of Cheng’s after all, albeit in a different form (but one much more intimate): a live spoken word performance of poetry Cheng recited at The Paris Cafe in Sacramento, CA in January of 2001.

The Head Up Project, as it’s called, is being helmed by Buckle Up for Chi, a seatbelt advocacy group named in Cheng’s honor. It will be released on an exact date still to be determined in January and is available for pre-order right here.

This release is an incredibly meaningful one for Deftones fans and Chi’s family and friends alike. We’ll post samples from the performance on MetalSucks if and when they become available.

Deftones released their newest album, Ohms, earlier this year, their fourth since Cheng’s passing.
