Of Mice & Men Share Catchy Hard Rock Rager, “Obsolete”

0

My knowledge of Of Mice & Men is admittedly quite limited, but my understanding is they’re one of those late-era metalcore bands who ended up transitioning into radio hard rock. Their metalcore days never made an impression on me (I’d long since already moved on from the genre), and I’m not sure I’m about to become the world’s biggest Of Mice & Men cheerleader, but I will say this: I like this newer version of the band much better! I understand they underwent a frontman switch in recent years, and I’m not sure the extent to which that’s had an impact on their shift in sound, but I reckon it’s the case that the band’s fans are quite divided on this issue.

I say all this in the context, of course, of the band’s newest single, “Obsolete.” It’s a catchy hard rock ditty with an eminently singable chorus, sprinkled with some harsh vocals in the verse (ye olde ‘good cop / bad cop’ vocals!) to call back to the band’s heavy roots. I could see it storming the active rock radio charts and getting airplay alongside Chevelle or Shinedown or whoever, although I concede the harsh vocals might prove a bit of an obstacle to some listeners or radio station programmers. Shoot high, I s’pose.

Give “Obsolete” a ride below. Of Mice & Men’s new EP, Timeless, drops on February 26; pre-order here.
