Devin Townsend Announces New Album, Lightwork, Reveals 2022 European Tour

Lovable metal savant Devin Townsend spent several months over the past year+ detailing a new album called Puzzle, even revealing he was essentially finished mixing it in March. Now he’s gone and announced he’s recording a record called Lightwork, and revealed a 2022 European tour in support of it.

Is Lightwork an entirely separate album from Puzzle, or simply the same project, reimagined, re-recorded and re-everythinged? Given Devin’s fast-working brain we wouldn’t be surprised either way, so we’ve reached out to his publicist for clarification.

Either way, this much we know: Devin is working with acclaimed producer GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Mudvayne, Nickelback, etc.) at The Farm Studios in Vancouver, BC on Lightwork, and that album will ostensibly come out in spring 2022, the same time Devin will tour Europe. New Devin music is always a-ok by us no matter what it’s called or how it’s released!

Dates for that trek are below, and tickets can be ordered here starting on June 14.

Devin recently released two live albums. Devolution Series #1, which came out in March, featured an acoustic performance captured in Leeds, England in 2019. The second, titled Devolution Series #2 – Galactic Quarantine, consists of a quarantine show that aired on September 5, 2020, featuring the all-star band lineup that Devin had planned to take out on the road in Europe last year: Wes Hauch (Alluvial, ex-The Faceless, ex-Black Crown Initiate – guitar), Samus Paulicelli (Decrepit Birth – drums) and Liam Wilson (The Dillinger Escape Plan – bass).

We’ll update you on Lightwork as soon as we know more.
