Exclusive Full Album Premiere: Kollapse’s Sult

0

Have Denmark’s Kollapse figured out the secret to building sonic psychic tunnels directly into their listeners’ minds? Listening to the sludgey post-metal trio’s sophomore album, Sult, the word “ravenous” kept popping into our minds… and that was before we consciously knew that the album’s title is the Danish word for “hunger.”

Okay, so Kollapse probably haven’t learned to create telepathy through music. It’s just that Sult is such a raw, urgent bid for survival that it’s bound to conjure images of unquenchable cravings and raging against the dying of the light. Like the woebgone bastard of Cult of Luna and Intronaut, Sult is music’s answer to someone trying to claw their way out of cavernous pit of mud – and leaving their fingernails embedded in the soil as they do.

Or, as the band more poetically puts it:

“The absence of skin on skin and the catastrophic consequences when that hunger turns into desperation. It is about the duality of searching for purpose and losing all in the process. Staring long and hard into the void and realizing the futility of struggle. Sult is a statement on desire, grief and the pure human necessity to scream back at an empty existence. It is a step onto the road of grim realism paved by mavericks such as Edward Munch, Carl Th. Dreyer and Stig Sæterbakken. Offering no solutions or postmodern irony, Sult simply reaches out. Existentialism and force collide. Life plods on, until it doesn’t.”

MetalSucks is stoked to debut Sult in advance of its release this Friday, June 25  via Fysisk Format, in cooperation with Maniyax Records, Dingleberry Records, and Virkelighedsfjern. You can stream it below, and pre-order it here!!!
