Unto Others (ex-Idle Hands) Post New Single, “Downtown,” Announce Album, Strength

Two singles, both fire: I’m way into the new music from Unto Others, the band formerly known as Idle Hands. Following the apostrophe-challenged “When Will Gods Work Be Done” last month, the band have returned with a grammatically perfect new track, “Downtown,” and announced their forthcoming album, Strength.

On “Downtown,” goth, new wave, dark wave and post-rock collide with metallic riffs that aren’t quite as forward as on the first single, but are present nonetheless. If someone asked me to describe Unto Others in one sentence I might say “Kinda like Tribulation but without the black metal vocals.” Everyone loves Tribulation so that’d surely stoke interest, and I’m confident everyone will like Unto Others too; this band is going places.

My only complaint on “Downtown” is the aggressively auto-tuned vocals. I know it’s commonplace these days, but I don’t know if I’ll ever get fully used to it. Surely singer Gabriel Franco’s raw vocal tracks weren’t so bad that so much fixing was necessary.

Check out the video for “Downtown” below. Strength comes out on September 24 via Roadrunner Records; pre-order here.

Unto Others will tour this fall with Behemoth, Arch Enemy, and Carcass unless the pandemic decides otherwise. Dates:
