Hate’s New Song Is Like a Storm of Anvils

2021 marks Hate’s thirtieth anniversary, and the band is celebrating in the best way possible — by releasing a new album.

The Polish blackened death metal crew’s tenth full-length studio album is called Rugia, which is either a reference to a German island or a variety of Pokémon. It’s probably the former, but it’s kinda fun to think it might be the latter.

In either case, the title track from Rugia is a goodamn motherfucking MOTHERFUCKER of a song. I mean, it is just a fucking TANK. It’s a storm of anvils; like, it’s just RAINING anvils, there are anvil tornados, too. That’s actually the image the song conjures for me.

Also, I wanna give a special shout out to the band’s new drummer, a 23-year-old who goes by the moniker Nar-Sil, and also plays in a band called Virgin Snatch. His name may sound like some type of medicinal cream for whales, but that thing he’s doing on the cymbals (I’m sure there’s a word for it… the first time you hear it is around the :34 mark) is pretty much my new favorite thing ever. It’s like someone found just right seasoning for the steak.

Listen to “Rugia” below. It’s actually the opening cut on the record, and hot DAMN!, what an awesome way to kick off an album.

Rugia is out October 15 on Metal Blade. Pre-order it here.
