Canadian ’80s heavy metal revivalists Striker punked their fanbase yesterday into thinking they’d broken up by posting an image of a tombstone that read “RIP 2007-2021.” Understandably, folks bought it. One MetalSucks reader even emailed our general tips inbox with a screen shot, lamenting the sad news:

Striker Broke Up. Psych! No They Didn’t. But Here’s a New Song!

Thankfully the band was just goofing around, employing a play on words of their new single, “Deathwish,” which dropped today. At least they didn’t wait long!

Striker have always specialized in shout-along ’80s anthems — their 2018 record, Play to Win, was amongst my favorites of the year — and their latest is no exception. It’s even got an extra AOR twist for added singability and a beat that’ll get your booty moving.

Vocalist Dan Cleary comments:

“We are finally ready to share our new single ‘Deathwish.’ Inspired by 1980s AOR with a modern twist, Deathwish is a heavy metal banger we can’t wait to play live someday soon!”

New drummer Jonathan Webster and bassist Pete Klassen, who joined the band in 2019, make their recorded debuts on this track. No word on a new album yet, but you better believe you’ll know as soon as we do. Their planned European tour with Unleash the Archers has, sadly, been canceled for the usual reasons.
