Exclusive Premiere: Heartsick Sink Their Teeth In Deep on “Crown”

0

When we did our round-up of underground bands that were suggested by our readers, one act who stood out, both in the uniqueness of their sound and the fan response we received about them, were Michigan’s Heartsick. The quartet’s dark, psychological nu-core both hearkens back to the end of the ’90s and pushes the genre out of its comfort zone with heavy doses of atmosphere and emotion. So when Heartsick asked us if we’d do the honor of premiering their new track “Crown” via its eerie music video, we jumped at the chance.

“Crown” shows off the ambidextrous approach with which Heartsick won us over in the first place. One minute, the song feels languid and melancholy; the next, it breaks into a frenzy of snarled lyrics, nails-on-chalkboard guitar work, and epic choral staging. The video, meanwhile, is a creepy delight, featuring Heartsick performing in what looks like an industrial wasteland surrounded by flying sharks (run, Gojira, run!). The video feels perfectly matched with the song, and both show off the creative potential of this band.

According to Heartsick:

“As we continue to age the world around us changes rapidly. We sit on our thrones with our collective biases while we continue to push away the idea that with time comes change and change is necessary. Rulers do not sit on thrones forever, we are no exception. Embrace change or be left behind.”
