Slipknot Release Killer New Single “Yen”
Everyone’s favorite Des Moinesians Slipknot have returned with the second song from their new album, The End, So Far. The new song is called “Yen” and it’s an interesting one.
The track starts with a kind of soundscape before Corey Taylor‘s vocals come in over the brooding music as the full band comes in slowly. Once the band kicks in, they’re off to the races.
The End, So Far‘s first single, “The Dying Song (Time to Sing)” was similar in style to songs like “Unsainted” from 2019’s We Are Not Your Kind, adding a pop spin to their heavy tunes.
“Yen” sounds a little closer to what listeners probably expect or want out of Slipknot. It has Taylor’s mildly-unhinged half-sung vocals and atmospheric parts, but plenty of balls-out, heavy Slipknot as well.
The dark new song supports Taylor’s bleak outlook on the world from last week. No optimism, just jaded frustration.
“I think if I was younger then I would believe in something like hope. I would have that kind of optimism (laughs), but I’ve seen waves of this shit for 30 years, and I’m just unimpressed. The sad thing is, it takes real tragedy to make anything change, because we’re not a proactive species. We would rather close the door after the house is already on fire. I’m just kind of used to it at this point.”
Slipknot are going on tour to support the album, which drops on September 30 and is available for preorder. Check out the new song and video, plus all the other album details, below.
