Thoughtcrimes (Ex-Dillinger Escape Plan) Release New Song, “Mirror Glue”

In just over a week, Thoughtcrimes—featuring former The Dillinger Escape Plan drummer Billy Rhymer—will release their debut album, Altered Pasts. Today, they stream the final single from the record, “Mirror Glue.”

“Mirror Glue” nicely sums up what Thoughtcrimes are all about, with its use of electronics, chaotic heaviness and a singalong hook. Like the other Thoughtcrimes songs we’ve heard, “Mirror Glue” has its similarities to Dillinger in the frantic approach to the heavy parts and the transition to big, clean choruses but still stands as its own piece of music. Says singer Rick Pepa:

“’Mirror Glue’ feels like the most natural extension of the Tap Night EP. Also, I’d be remiss to not mention my little brother Nick Picerno of Godseyes. He lent his talent for a guest vocal performance on the track.”

Rhymer adds a deeper look into the songwriting process for “Mirror Glue,” explaining:

“I’ve always been a fan of anthemic drum intros. It’s something that when done right, will always give a song an unmistakable identity. That was the intention when putting this one together. It started with the drums. Everything after that was a linear progression of tension and release, blindsided curve balls and scene changes. There was no jumbling around with parts. It was all written as is in sequence. It’s also the only song we have ever auditioned live prior to tracking.”

Prior to the release of “Mirror Glue,” Thoughtcrimes released a handful of singles. You can listen to the sludgy “New Infinities” featuring Seven)Suns violinist Earl Maneein and the opening track to Altered Pasts, “Panopticon.” Altered Pasts is out on August 26 via Pure Noise Records.
